Technical Field Audit Checklist
Industrial Applications Purpose: On-site diagnosis of surface protection failures.
1. The "Visual Edge" Inspection
-
Is there "Edge-Ooze"? (Adhesive squeezing out the sides of the roll).
-
Diagnosis: The roll was likely stored in a high-heat area or has been under too much winding tension.
-
Solution: Recommend temperature-controlled storage or grade with a firmer adhesive.
-
-
Is there "Telescoping"? (The center of the roll is pushing out like a cone).
-
Diagnosis: Improper handling or high-speed unwinding on the applicator.
-
Solution: Check applicator brake tension; ensure rolls are stored horizontally.
-
2. Laser Application Issues
-
Issue: Bubbling during the pierce.
-
Check: Is the film "Laser-Grade"?
-
Check: Is it a Fiber Laser?
-
Recommendation: R0601FO. Standard PE films cannot handle the gas-assist pressure of a Fiber Laser.
-
-
Issue: Heavy dross or "fused" edges.
-
Diagnosis: The film is melting instead of vaporizing.
-
Recommendation: Switch to FO rated film. If using Fiber, ensure the film is specifically "FO" rated.
-
3. Adhesive Performance (The "Peel Test")
-
Issue: Adhesive Transfer / Ghosting (Sticky residue left on the metal).
-
Check: How long has the film been on the metal? (Dwell time).
-
Check: Has the metal been stored outside?
-
Diagnosis: UV degradation.
-
Solution: control the environmental factors for storage.
-
-
Issue: "Tunneling" (Film lifting in long bubbles).
-
Diagnosis: The film was applied with too much tension (pre-stretched). As it tries to "shrink" back to size, it lifts off the metal.
-
Solution: Loosen the tension on the customer’s laminator/applicator.
-
4. Surface Compatibility
-
Issue: Film falling off.
-
Check: Is the surface textured or matte-painted?
-
Diagnosis: Low-tack film cannot "grab" a rough surface.
-
Solution: Recommend a higher-tack higher-adhesion grade.
